Dockyard At the Royal Naval Dockyard in the West End of the island. Once a major Atlantic outpost for the British Royal Navy, this historic location has been transformed into one of Bermuda’s most popular tourist areas. Maps are available at the Visitor Information Desks in the cruise terminal and the Visitor Information Centre adjacent to the Dockyard ferry and bus stop. Visit the Bermuda National Museum for a fascinating journey through Bermuda’s often turbulent history, from shipwrecks and whaling to the first flying boats and modern tourism. The Museum is also home to Dolphin Quest where you can swim with the dolphins.
Hamilton The City of Hamilton is the capital of Bermuda and has many shops, restaurants, eateries and pubs. Attractions include Fort Hamilton, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Insititute Bermuda Historical Society Museum in the Bermuda National Library, Bermuda National Gallery and Bermuda Society of Arts in City Hall and the Anglican Cathedral. Most of these attractions are free as are the lovely parks spread through the City.
St. George’s The Town of St. George was the island’s original capital and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many shops, restaurants and historic sites. Attractions include the World Heritage Centre, Tucker House Museum, National Trust Museum, Bermudian Heritage Museum, St. George’s Historical Society Museum, Bermuda Perfumery and St. Peter’s Church. A ten minute walk from the town are two good snorkelling beaches with restaurants and Fort St. Catherine . The re-enactment of a public punishment for gossips and nags takes place in King’s Square at 12 noon on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday In the summer months and on Saturday and Wednesday in the winter.
The Aquarium, Museum & Zoo in Flatt’s Village has large tanks showcasing Bermuda’s reefs, information on Bermuda’s geology and ecosystems plus a diverse animal population. Visit http://www.bamz.org
Crystal & Fantasy Caves in Bailey’s Bay are naturally occurring cave systems with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. The guided half hour tours leave every 15 minutes. There is a café and gift shop. Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse dates from 1846 and offers beautiful views across the island whether standing at its base or climbing the 185 steps to the top.
