Destination Dockyard
Bermuda’s newest event, sponsored by the West End Development
Corporation (WEDCO), Department of Tourism (DOT) and hosted by the Chamber
of Commerce, is held each Monday during the summer months – there’s
a festival of fun taking place at the West End! Arrive at the Royal Naval
Dockyard by 8:00 pm and let the good times roll until 11:00 pm.
As you step off the ferry at Dockyard, vendors displaying their crafts
and talents will greet you. Stores stay open later at Clocktower Shopping
Mall, and it's fun to browse for unique gifts at the Craft market and
galleries, watch glassblowers at work, sample rum cakes, stroll through
the Victualling Yard, and visit attractions such as Snorkel Park and
Dolphin Quest Bermuda.
Adding to the festive atmosphere are musicians, dancers and other entertainers.
Particularly popular are Gombey dancers and drummers, who reflect Bermuda's
African, Native American and British colonial heritage with lively rhythms
and vibrant costumes adorned with sequins, yarn fringe and trailing ribbons.
Their rhythmic, age-old dances never fail to delight the crowds. It's
the perfect way to spend a balmy summer evening.
