Royal Naval Dockyard Division
In
January 2002 The Executive Board of the Chamber agreed to the format
requested of a number of West End businesses for a Dockyard Division
of the Chamber of Commerce. Dockyard members faced a particularly difficult
time and felt a strong representation in this Division would be one avenue,
which would provide all businesses with a voice that could be heard.
A number of issues were focused on in the West End during the past year
and the Dockyard Chamber is proud to be involved at various levels. Whether
through individual organizations or collaborative efforts, such as membership
in the CSIC (Cruise Ship Initiative Committee), our organization has
been key player in the following successes:
- Security – Port Security – Inspection result positive
- Transportation – Dedicated Bus to the Dockyard location
- Night Event – Successful pilot program of Destination
Dockyard
- Entertainment – increase of local activity: (Calypso night
at Pirates Landing & activities at Frog and Onion)
- Beach – Snorkel Park on line
- VSB – Active – Aggressive – new look
- Services – Post Office in Dockyard opened
- Lighting – enhanced in area – roadway from Glassworks
to Bermuda Maritime Museum
- Security – Police presence dedicated to area
- Events – Continued success of Music Festival
- Security – Shop Watch Program was introduced and implemented
late 2004
Moving forward we will continue to work on our business plan to increase
visitor numbers to the Dockyard area; communicate with our partners creating
yearly calendar of events; improve image of the West End; increase the
existing membership base to include all sectors of the West End not just
Dockyard.
