Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who Elects the Board Members?

The officers of the Board establish a Nominating Committee consisting of five members who, not less than thirty days before the Annual General Meeting, nominate not less than nine, no more than twelve, persons to be the official slate of candidates for election to the Board. The five members of the Nominating Committee are representatives from the members of the Divisions of the Chamber or members of the Board. Any member of the Chamber, if seconded by not less than five other members of the Chamber, may nominate another member of the Chamber as a candidate for election as a member of the Board. The election of the members of the Board is made by the members at the Annual General Meeting.

How should I raise an issue?

Each member is assigned to a Division of the Chamber of Commerce. The general management and control of the affairs of each Division shall be vested in a Division Committee. Each Division Committee shall consist of at least five members of the Division and shall be elected at the Annual General meeting of the Division. Division Committees tend to meet on a monthly basis where agenda items are raised discussed and recommendations made to the Executive Board. Issues should be addressed at the Division Committee level first or through the Executive Vice President of the Chamber who will ensure that an item of concern is submitted to the Committee.

What steps do I have to take to start a Committee where there is no activity within the Division?

Contact the Executive Vice President to meet and discuss the duties required of a committee chairperson and members. Committees do the work and the Committee Chairperson must set the pace.
